Robert Iger, known as Bob Iger, was born on February 10 1951 in New York City. After graduating from Ithaca College in 1973, he began his career at ABC in 1974. Over the course of Iger’s time at ABC, he gained experience in many different aspects of the company. Some of the areas he worked in included news, sports and entertainment in the program acquisition, rights negotiations and business affairs departments. Iger became an official member of the Disney Senior Management team in 1996 taking on the position of Chairman of ABC Group, owned by Disney. This job required Iger to oversee the broadcast television network and station group, cable television properties and radio and publishing businesses. Additionally he guided the merger between Capital Cities/ABC Inc. and The Walt Disney Company. In 1999, Iger took on the additional role as President of Walt Disney International. This position’s main responsibility was to expand the Disney name and presence to areas outside of the United States of America. In 2000, Bob Iger served as the President and Chief Operating Officer, keeping this role until 2005. He was named one of the “25 Most Powerful People in Business” in 2006 and 2007 by Fortune magazine. He was also named one of the “Best CEOs” in Institutional Investor magazine four years in a row (2008-2011). These are just some of the recognitions he has received throughout his ongoing career.
