Throughout time music has evolved whether it’s from old school Hip-Hop to modern day hip-hop, old pop to modern pop. In those genres, there are protest songs that have evolved as well but some still have the same message to the audience. The song by Bob Marley “ Get Up Stand Up” is a very peaceful soothing song that has a deep message. The audience Marley wanted to impact would be anyone who has ever felt oppressed by their choices in life. In fact, he himself was oppressed in Jamaica where he had to fight for the acceptance and respect of the religion he believed in. During the 1960s there was a women’s movement. It pushed women who were introverts out of their shell and fight for their rights. This song is in between melancholy and harsh that just the whole song screams out power and bravery to stand up for themselves. The audience is directed to men telling them that women can do whatever they please and they don’t need to be controlled. Lesley Gore is saying that they are not an object and have to follow whatever the man commands them to do that women are humans too not something that should be used. The song I would say would be harsh but not in a metal type of way but instead a dancing beat that everyone could jam out to. Lady Gaga wants everyone to hear this song because there are billions of people out there and all of them have problems and some of them could be how we look. Gaga is letting everyone know that we shouldn’t be afraid and to embrace our insecurities because we are all born differently. This song talks about how everyone should just accept themselves and how they look. It doesn’t matter what color, ethnicity, age, and even religion you are just stay true to yourself and not to act like someone else that isn’t you.
