Body image. It has been on the minds of women since the 1700’s. From corsets to body shapers, getting the perfect body shape has been the it thing. When modern fashion models began to hit the world, body image has been getting to teenagers and young girls. But when plus sized models were introduced it eased the mind of many females, but also opened the debate of: are plus sized models or slender models more attractive? While it is nearly impossible to get the opinion of everyone, it is easy to find out what majority age, race, or gender finds what type of body shape more “likable”. But when Yahoo!’s Shine lifestyle viewed the show in a negative light for the comments judges were making, the ‘model life’ interested less and less people. Now it seems like models of every shape and size is getting criticed by anyone for not being big enough or not being small enough. The average fashion model seems to have gotten smaller (and the plus sized models to). According to PLUS Model magazine, about twenty years ago an average model weighed eight percent less than the average woman but now they weigh twenty three percent less! A decade ago plus size models were between size 12 and 18, today the majority of them are between size six and size 14. Which could be the cause of people preferring slender models or women over plus sized models or women. According to elementsbehavioralhealth.com in the article titled “Who’s to Blame for Anorexia”, back in the 1960’s young girls wanted to be like supermodel ‘Twiggy’ who was said to be ‘a skinny kid with the face of an angel’. Women and Girls began to starve themselves to look like Twiggy. But supermodels may not be the only blame, many who develop an eating disorder ,such as anorexia, say that it’s a biological or heredity issue.
