Boeing was started during World War One by William E. Boeing and U.S. Navy Officer Conrad Westervelt who built a single engine two-seat plane called the B&W which in 1917 was renamed the Boeing Airplane Company. This company helped the Navy out during World War One by building flying boats for the Navy. During the 1920s and 1930s the company was successful when it came to selling planes to the military, during this time they sold trainers, observation craft, pursuit planes, torpedo planes, and patrol bombers to the U.S. Military. Boeing Airplane did not stop there, in the 1920s they expanded the business to airmail services. During World War Two the Boeing Airplane Company had made some of the most famous air crafts such a Model 247 which was a twin engine monoplane, Model 314 which was a flying boat, Model 307 which was the very first airliner with a pressurized cabin this was named Stratoliner. During this time Boeing has also come out with their legendary bomber such as the B—17 which was the Flying Fortress, The Superfortress B-29 which played a major role in the war efforts during World War Two. After the war Boeing continued to make planes for the U.S. Military such as the six-engine Stratojet B-47 along with B-52 which was the eight-engine Startofortresss. Although Boeing was extremely successful throughout the years with selling aircrafts to the U.S. Military they on the other hand were not successful when it came to commercial products and they soon founded themselves behind their competitors Douglas and Lockheed.
