The term of a legendary rock band has been given loosely to bands in today’s music industry with very few that deserve it. Bands that do, have proven time and time again, by producing extravagant records and selling out arenas around the world. Very few have been able to produce songs to capture and enter the hearts of people over generations, but Bon Jovi is one of those bands. This reading will highlight the formation and rise of the band, the maintenance of success, and the band in later years.
Their unique blend of rock and pop helped them rise above the crowd in the music industry throughout the 1980s and showed they were a force to be reckoned with. Recognized as one of the biggest bands in the world, Bon Jovi formed in 1983 in New Jersey, United States. A set date of concerts for 3 weeks turned in to a bond of brotherhood lasting over 30 years. Through the early 80s the band toured around the world promoting their first single ‘Runaway’. After touring for a year, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora realized their potential and began working together on their next album. When it released, the album went instantly platinum.
The rise of success did not stop there. Their third album, Slippery When Wet, was released and became the band’s most sold album of all time. The album spent 8 weeks at number one since the release and was named the must-have album of 1986. After a year and a half of touring the world, no one thought they could top their previous success. But against all odds, Bon Jovi released their next studio album, New Jersey, and instantly shot to number one again. It produced more number one hits than any of their previous
