The memoir Bonobo Handshake by Vanessa Woods, illustrates the life on the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Vanessa Woods goes to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to study the habitat of bonobos a specie of apes that only live in that country. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a land with abundant resource as with riche minerals that other country envy. But with Mobutu as a dictator and poverty rising caused by neocolonialism DRC is not able to develop.

Also Wood describes, “This Aladdin’s cave of treasure is Congo’s great fortune, but is also her greatest blight” (49). Many country want part of all this treasured but taking of advantage of its undeveloped stage. Many countries come to Congo to obtain its valuable resource but not only take its resource but influence the country government. In 1960 after the Belgian regime Patrice Lumumba wanted to be president. This man had different ideas that many did not like as the Americans. Mobutu came from working class family descendant his father was a cook that work for a Belgian judge. Unfortunately his father dies but the wife of the Belgian judge educates him. Life gave him an opportunity to taste both sides of life the poor one and a wealthy one. Because with the education he obtain he became a bright man. In spite of preceding of a working class he becomes ambitus to obtain power. Because Mobutu took control over DRC with the support of the West after the murder of his befriended Patrice Lumumba. Mobuto call his self a “warrior” but only to his benefit and not a warrior for his country, he rapidly did business with Europe and the United States of America regarding the rich soil of DRC for its mineral deposits. This two country being neocolonialism with a develop government and economy paid good money for mineral withdrawals. The United States president George Bush consider Mobutu “most valued friends” (27). Additionally he benefit of a luxury life with extravagant accommodations as Chinese masseurs, and a palace. He becomes a dictator to maintain his power and to have control. Like his soldiers would ensure that people make the right decision on the election polls. Not to mention he execution his enemies. His general were paid but his soldiers were starving. How can thing are able to run good with such
