In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee; Mockingbirds are powerful symbol in the story because it symbolizes innocents. In the story there are quite a few people who are symbolized as mockingbirds since in a way they are innocents. A few of these people are Mr.Raymond, Boo radley and Tom Robinson. In the story all three of the people are innocent in but there innocents was destroyed or injured by some form of evil, therefore killing a Mockingbird. Mr.Raymond is a townsman in Maycomb who lives with a woman of color. Yet the people's racial prejudices in his town force him to be a fake drunk to have an excuse of why he lives with a woman of color. Everyone thinks he is an evil man who is locked in the house for the rest of his life, they think he contumacious and they think he creeps around at night outside of his house but he doesn't. Boo is a very misunderstood character who is relatively harmless. At the beginning of the book Boo gives the kids things from his childhood and things he has made for them through a hole in the tree but his father Mr.Radley puts cement in the hole when the tree wasn't even sick yet he says “Trees dying. You plug them up when they are sick.”(Lee chapter 7)” Boo is also seen towards the end of the book first giving scout a blanket after Ms.Maudie's house burned down and scout and Jem were standing in the cold. Not to mentions earlier in the book when Boo stitched up Jem's pants. And finally Boo at the end of the book saves Jem and Scout from drunk Bob Ewells who tried to attack them. Boos innocents is destroyed when he killed Bob to save the children but in the last chapter Boo pets jem on the head showing he still cares about people. Thus also making him a
