Numbers are omnipresent within the stories presented in the Bible. From the importance of three as the representation of the Trinity, to one being unity and God, they are conspicuous in every facet of the collection of religious texts. Within the Book of Revelation itself, twelve, seven, and six hundred sixty-six are consistently mentioned- the first two as concepts of perfection and the third as evil. Twelve is a number that symbolizes the nation of Israel, as well as completion. Israel is comprised of twelve tribes, created by the twelve sons of John and it is these 12 tribes that the, “hundred and forty and four thousand,” (Revelation 7:4) chosen people are taken from. God created the universe in seven days, and within Revelation, seven is mentioned a plenitude of times. Revelation 1:4 states, “John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne.” In this quote, John is sending a message to, “the seven churches… in Asia,” (Revelation 1:4) implying that there are only seven and he is sending messages to all of them, in essence completing a circuit of all of the churches with his message. This is followed by a mention of the, “seven Spirits,” (Revelation 1:4), who are the ones who gave the message to John (for him to give to the churches). Yet again, there is a “the” that implies there are only seven spirits of God at his throne, so all of the spirits have given a message. Later, in the fifth chapter of Revelation, there is, “a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals,” (Revelation 5:1). The seals themselves are supposedly able to be broken by, “no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth,” (Revelation 5:3).
