Book Title: A Long Way Gone: Memoirs Of A Boy Soldier Genre: Historical nonfiction memoir Book Pages: 218 Summary: This book is about Ishmael’s life in Sierra Leone, and how he is running from the war, and how he eventually becomes a soldier and is forced to fight. After, Ishmael recovers from his experiences and has to escape another war. Main Conflicts: The main conflicts of the book are between the RUF and the army who are constantly fighting each other. The other conflict is in Ishmael himself. He is mentally fighting himself over what to do, if he wants to continue to fight or not. Relate: It is difficult to relate to this book because most people do not go through what Ishmael did. The only real way that we can relate to this book is that we and Ishmael are both children that went to school. However, Ishmael had to stop going to his school and has to run away from the rebels. Driving Question Answer: The book address the driving question in many ways throughout the novel by showing what can happen if we do not defend human rights. The events that Ishmael and his friends go through show why it is important to stop child soldiers. They have to go through deadly, traumatizing
