The setting of the novel, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury is set in a very populated city in the United States around the year 2053. Bradbury like to set his novels around 100 years in the future. He is trying to convey to us the insane world his characters are living in throughout this novel. This novel was published in 1953.
Guy Montag is the main character in this novel. He is a 30-year-old firefighter who burns books. He is married to Mildred. He has been working as a firefighter since he was 20 years old. In the beginning of this passage Montag meets a 17-year-old girl named Clarisse McClellan. She is very talkative and is not shy at all. After a few chats with Clarisse, Montag begins to wonder very much about the things she has asked and talked about. “Of course I’m happy. What does she think? I’m not?”(8). Montag's purpose throughout the novel is to use his own imagination while reading the books, understand their meaning, and remembering them for another time in the future.

He has known Montag was reading the books and tried to give him hints such as sending the hound to his house. Montag didn’t catch on to these hints and then was reported by Mildred’s friends, and then later by Mildred. Montag and the fireman get a call and upon arrival at the house he realizes the call has been to his own house. Montag is blown away. Beatty tells him to burn his own house and then will be arrested afterwards. During the conversations Beatty practically asks to die. Montag burns him to death with the flamethrower. The knocks out the other two fireman and saves a couple of books from his home. He is on the run. He finally makes it out of the city and into the woods where he meets the “book burners”.
