The Outsiders By: S.E Hinton Young Adult Fiction Summary: The outsiders is a book about crime. It is a book with the characters Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, Dally, Jonny, Steve, Bob, and Sherri. Ponyboy is a phenomenal runner and a great student, he is part of a gang called the Greasers. There are two main gangs the Greasers and the Socials (Socs), the Greasers are a peaceful but the Socs are very violent. The Socs always jump greasers and when Jonny and Ponyboy go to the vacant lot and get jumped, Ponyboy was being drowned in a water fountain by Bob so Jonny pulls the switch blade and stabs Bob. Then Ponyboy and Jonny run away to a church, later in hiding they meet Dally in DQ and then they notice the church on fire so they go rescue the children …show more content…

S.E did not shy away from putting stuff that would make the book from good to AMAZING. She also uses stuff to make it that scary and gang type feeling. Irony: One example of irony is when Ponyboy and Jonny are jumped Ponyboy gets put unconscious and Jonny kills Bob. This is irony because as they run away to the country and hide at a church and Ponyboy always wanted to live in the country where it is peaceful but it is not peaceful because they are on the run. Imagery: Imagery is visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work. An example of imagery is when S.E is explaining the Greasers looks Darry’s eyes are compared to “ Pale Blue-Green ice”. Symbolism: Symbolism is the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities. An example of that is that Bob has rings that represent the power over the greasers and being wealthy and have many resources. Another example of symbolism is the sunset/sunrise this represents the fact that all people are the same no matter what social class you are in. …show more content…

Book Review/Why I Selected Book: The book Outsiders is for anyone who wants adventure, the Outsiders is a book about gangs and social classes. The Outsiders is a book about gangs and social classes, both the gangs fight because they are different. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 because it was a very good book it just did not have enough to the plot, you could kind of expect what was going to happen to, that is why I give it a 4.5 out of 5. If you like a book that keeps you reading The Outsiders is for you. I selected the book because I like things with social classes, those books are always powerful because all of the authors make it easy to see that we are all the same and human no matter what social class you are in. Also I like the book because of the mystery and the thrill of it, that is why I picked The Outsiders by S.E.
