Hatchet is a book about survival written by Gary Paulsen with the experience he had before. Paulsen lived just as his character in Hatchet lived in the wilderness, also he tried making fire with a hatchet and rocks himself, and succeeded to write the book with such description and realty. This book is one of a kind, and has a very unique way of describing and writing. Also the character, Brian Robeson and the author, Gary Paulsen have a connection between their fourth dimensional personality (the author gave to Brian) that you cannot find easily anywhere. I highly recommend this book to any type of being that can read. Brian Robeson, a thirteen year old boy is traumatized by the secret that led to his parents’ divorce. When the summer comes, he gets on a small plane to visit his father in Canada when suddenly, the pilot gets a heartattack. Brian flies the plane for awhile and lands when the plane ran out of gas and fell to the L-shaped forest with a lake. The plane crashes in the water, and Brian is safe. He abandons the plane and the pilot who was dead. He goes on to the forest and starts a new life there. He finds himself lonely and panics for awhile, when he realized that he was actually hungry. He finds a good shelter and learns to use his hatchet for everything he does such as; starting a fire, building weapons, scaring off some animals, making a ladder, cutting food, and later for taking apart the plane to find some survival bags. He grows to be healthy with all kinds of animals to eat after hunting. He uses his head to make a pond for fishes to swim into. There were some tragedies such as tornadoes and getting attacked by a moose, but he lives for more than fifty days out there.
