In the “Children on the battlefield” article written by Marcie Schwartz explains that boys under 18 have served in many wars including the Civil War. They would join by lying about there age, having their parents sign them up, or there teachers would influence the recruiting officer to let them join. Some recruiting officers would look the other way so that they could met their quota. When they were enlisted they had many hard and dangerous jobs to do and also also served on military ships. The boys often were home sick and did not know what they wanted to do with there life.
210 Imagery and language Anthony Hill has written Soldier Boy using short and easy to understand sentences. Hill does this to keep the reader interested and to make the feeling of the book not boring but intriguing. Hill uses lots of quotes in his sentences to help describe different situations and give the reader a better understanding of the situation but also the characters and their personality. Hill also provides us with several pictures of Jim and his family. This changes the reader's ideas of what they imagined Jim and other character looked like and replaces the imagery previously used to help the reader picture each character and setting.
In the book True Legend, Drew Robinson is a nationally ranked basketball player who needs to prove to not just the world but this old man that he is real and not hype. I chose to read this book because it sounded like a good book when I read the summary. I also chose to read it because it was about basketball and I thought this book would be interesting because basketball is my favorite sport. True Legend has an intense plot, exciting and interesting chapters, and well-used flashbacks.

The name "Buffalo soldiers" comes from three reasons, the first reason was because the soldiers had curly hair, which reminded the people of the buffalo. The author of the book, Dean Hughes, has spent 7 years doing research on World War II and finding information about the war. Dean Hughes has interviewed war veterans, studied newspapers that were written in the time of World War II, and read hundreds of books like, “The Burden of Hitler 's Legacy” by Alfons Hecks to help his understanding of this time period and events. The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game In the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game by Michael Lewis, the main subject of the book is Michael Oher. Michael was a poor boy who didn 't have much in his life. Oher grew up in federal and foster homes. His mother was addicted to drugs and his father was out of the picture.

Many find it incredible that, such a young child could withstand all of this torture. It’s a great book about the struggle he faces yet, you feel the emotional effects you begin to have by this. You may be able to relate the emotion he feels, as the regard into fitting in, feeling lost, losing hope, and being abused. You sense everything in this book.
My most held value that has changed as I age is my view on being independent. While I would solely rely on myself when I was younger, I learned to build communities as I aged. The novel “The Soldier Boy” is a true story of Australia’s youngest known ANZAC, Jim Martin who led a short life which achieved much. He experienced a wide-range of what life had to offer in the early 1900s, much of it vastly different compared to the life teenage boys lead today. Although, it was tragically short, he is now seen as a figure to whom today 's teenagers can relate to and his legacy appeals to a new generation through this book and continues to foster the Anzac legend. There are many similarities and differences between the life the protagonist led and the lives teenage boys now lead due to the cultural changes present in Australia and timeline. Multiple themes and values presented within the text.
I enjoyed hearing about Sergeant Schardt’s time deployed in Iraq. I have never heard a female veteran talk about their time. She proves that people are capable of great things. The only limitations in life are the ones that you set for yourself. She was able to serve her country and gain an education in her lifetime.
