Book Report On The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls

The Glass Castle is a nonfiction book that was later turned into a movie. The book was written by Jeannette Walls, and the book is about her life. This story is about family dynamics. The Walls family moved around often and each member had their own set of difficulties. I think the book was turned into a movie for two reasons: the book is not appropriate for younger readers and not everyone wants to or has the time to read a book. It is much easier to see a movie trailer and then think I can spare two hours to go watch this movie. The movie kept the same name as the book. The PG-13 sensitizing. A PG-13 movie would sell more tickets to a wider audience. This is a way to make money instead of a way to share a story that proves you don’t have to follow in the footsteps of your parents. If the movie had not taken out the heavier topics then it would have been rated R. For instance, in the book Jeannette got whipped. This is a sensitive matter and would not be put in a PG-13 movie. Also in the book Jeannette is taken by a boy to see his dad, they get there and his dad is passed out drunk on the floor. His pants were down and he had wet himself. Later the same boy raped her in a shed. In the book these scenes showed both the dad and son naked, which would not be allowed in a PG-13 movie. One last part that is not PG-13 is particularly awful. After Rex takes all of the family's money, during the week that Rosemary is gone, he said that he would get it all back and more. His logical solution is to take the under-aged Jeannette to a bar to distract all of the guys. Then they would be off their game so they would not be able to play pool as well. A guy named Robbie took interest in Jeannette. After Rex beats Robbie many times, Robbie asked Jeannette to go upstairs to his room. Jeannette tries to get out of going by asking Rex for permission. Obviously, he should have said no, but Rex being Rex said sure you can go. Yell if you need anything. When they get up to Robbie’s room he tried to make advances on her, the only way she got out of it was showing him a little bit of the scar she got from the fire when she was little. She did not say how far the scar went or how big it was. She left it up to his imagination. This saved her from getting raped again. Although the movie did put this scene in they showed her as being older. In the book it does not say how old she is but I think she was around 12-16. In the movie she was probably 18. This
