The Witch of Blackbird Pond was written by Elizabeth George Speare. This storey took place in the year 1687. It started when a young girl named Kit had to leave her home to live in Connecticut to live with her Aunt Rachel and Uncle Mathew with their two kids Mercy and Judith. She came across the Atlantic Ocean on a ship called The Dolphin to come and live with them because her grandpa had died and she had no one else to watch over her. Kit had to sell her own slave to get enough money to come to Connecticut. Kit’s Uncle Mathew didn’t greet Kit with open arms like her Aunt Rachel did. The people of the town thought Hannah the Witch has cast a curse on the townspeople. An angry mob was going after Hannah. Kit just had to warn her. She helped Hannah escape. A couple weeks after that Kit was wrongly accused of being a witch. She was then put on trial for being friends with a witch. One man during the trial stood up with a book in his hand that Kit thought Prudence to write her name in. The man thought that it was some kind of curse that Kit had made. Kit did not confess that she was teaching Prudence how to write her name was because it was uncommon for people to learn how to read and right at that time. Kit was almost guilty until Prudence walked in and confessed that it was her that wrote her name the only part that Kit wrote was the first one that said Prudence. It only raised questions that Kit though Prudence how to right in Hannah's house. Prudence had to prove that she did indeed learn how to read and right. She read some parts from the bible and she evan wrote her name in front of the people to see.
