The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald Setting The Great Gatsby takes place in a fictional suburb of New York, right outside of the New York City. Being a rather short novel, the story takes place over the boiling summer of 1922. Something that I have realized through out the book was that many, but not all, of the important events happened in the evening or late at night, such as the death of Myrtle and all of the lavish parties thrown my Gatsby. Plot In the summer of 1922, Nick Carraway moves to West Egg, located in Long Island, New York, to take a break from his passion of writing and learn about the bond business, of which is absolutely popular in the city, not far from the Eggs. Daisy being rather naïve has no idea about the affair. He also is introduced to Daisy’s close friend, Jordan Baker, a professional golfer and soon lover of Nick. Soon after, he gets an invitation to one of Gatsby’s parties and finds Jordan there as well. He finally meets Gatsby and starts talking to him regularly and forming a friendship. Gatsby starts taking Nick out to lunch and hanging out, getting close to him just to ask him if he can invite Daisy over for tea so he can see her again. Tea at Nick’s led to Daisy and Gatsby to start talking again, and also to start an affair behind Tom’s back. Tom immediately started to get suspicious of his wife’s personal agenda with the result of her constantly being gone and eventually confronts Gatsby. Jealousy gets the best of Tom and Gatsby, resulting in a horrific car crash, killing Myrtle. When Myrtle’s husband, Wilson, (oblivious to the fact that his wife is having an affair with Tom) thinks the killer is Gatsby, only because the bystanders saw his stunning Yellow car speed away from the scene, he seeks revenge and shoots Gatsby on his patio by the pool he hasn’t used all summer long, following his own Suicide.
