The book "Hatchet" is written by Gary Paulsen. Gary Paulsen is a three-time Newbery honer author. This book is about a thirteen year old boy, Brian, trying to survive in the forest at somewhere in Canada. Brian learns courage and it made me feel very responsible for my life as well.

Brian Robeson is a thirteen year old boy. His parents are divorced and he stays with his mother while goes to school but on holidays he visits his father for few months. Brian was on a plane flying to his father in the beginning of the story. On the way to his father, the pilot seems to have problems with his stomach. Brian was always seeing the out of the lake. He never looked in the lake. In the lake, there were lots of little fishes. Brian tried to catch the fish with his hands but the fishes were too fast to catch with bare hands. Brian thought he would have to make bow and an arrow to catch the fish. He gets some wood from the forest and start cutting it with the hatchet. Brian soon catches his first fish and enjoy the fish. That night a skunk enters the shelter. When Brian yelled at the skunk, it sprayed gas to him, blinding him and covering him with a horrible smell. Later Brian catches a bird with his bow and arrow. But thanks to the tornado, the whole lake is upside down. So he could see the tail of the airplane. Suddenly Brian thinks that he should get the survival pack from the airplane. He starts to make a wood boat and he gets the survival pack. But while getting the pack he drops his hatchet in the lake and goes back for it. After picking up the hatchet, he sees something he never should have seen. Brian saw the pilot's head. The head was eaten by the fishes and Brian almost could have been sick in the water but comes up to the land and tried to sleep. The next day, Brian opened the survival pack. He found a freeze-dried meal which could be cooked fast and there were also an Emergency Transmitter which did not work even though Brian tried hard. When Brian was trying to cook the freeze-dried meal, an airplane lands on the lake to rescue Brian. I think this book is one of the best books I have ever read. It had some gross parts in the story and I grimaced my face several times, but over all this book was the kind of story I really like to read. I learned that surviving alone is really difficult and even though the story was fiction I think it could happen to me. Before I read the book, I never thought about living alone in the forest apart from my parents. After reading the book, I imagined my self living in the forest alone and I got some ideas how to survive in that situation. I am not sure if it would
