I survived the Attacks of September 11 2001 by Lauren Tarshis, was published July 12, 2012 by the publisher Scholastic inc. . This book has 117 pages and its genre is Realistic Fiction. Lucas is a 11 year old boy that was into sport after an unwanted event with his father. The passion for the sport brought Lucas to be trapped in the trifling event of 9/11 Lucas Calley is a 11 year old boy whose dad is a part of the FDNY and has a very good friend named Benny but Lucas called him uncle Benny. Lucas dad got badly injured when he tried to stop a warehouse fire that left him burned and in the hospital for burn for 2 months. 30 seconds later a large boom echoed around the city as the airplane crashed into the first tower. Benny and lucas rushed back to the station to get truck to save some lives. Lucas waited in terre for his dad to go pick him up meanwhile he tried to pick up the fire house a little and turned on the tv to see what is happening. Before he knew it another airplane had crashed into the tower . Lucas got desperate and headed outside to see it if he can get out and escape the disaster. He tried not to look at the people running with blood, sweat and barefoot that came from the trade center as he walked south trying to look for his father. After he found his father they hid in the back of a store because the first tower had collapsed. A few minutes after that lucas and the dad ran ran ran and ran for 20 blocks where the sky was blue again. few months later, Lucas is coaching a football team of little kids. Two of little player lost their dads in attacks . Even though Lucas no longer plays football some of his old teammates have come to support him as a coach. 3 of the fire station workers dies but uncle benny is still recovering from all the injuries he had. This is a book of friendship, strength, inspiration, passion and courage . The friend hip is shown when uncle benny took over the house and even slept over lucas house to make sure him and his mom where safe and not in need of anything while lucas dad was in the hospital. The strength and inspiration was shown when on the way to football on the first day, Lucas didn't feel confident and ready for a challenge but he looked at uncle benny and he said “you can do this”. Those 4 words gave Lucas strength and inspiration. Passion was led to be seen when Lucas didn't want to quit for nothing football even if he was in danger of having brain damage due to all the concussions he had had. Last but not least courage was shown when Lucas battled the challenge of being alone and while that attack and learning how to overcome that. The setting was in downtown New York City 2001. One element that Tarshis used in the text was onomatopoeia. On page 37 “kaboom!” was used to describe the sound of when the first plane crashed in the twin towers. By the same token, on page 65 “whoosh!” was used to illustrate the sound of when the first tower
