Title of the book: Where the Wild Things Are
Author: Maurice Sendak
Illustrator: Maurice Sendak
Brief Summary: Max is into so much mischievous and wildness. He goes to be without supper for acting up. In his bedroom he gets so mad that he imagines a wild life to rampage in. His forest increases as his mind wonders off in his imagination. At each page the illustration bring to life Max’s wild imagination where he fights, finds new creatures, and eventually becomes kind of the wild.
Child Development Theory: Cognitive stages and structures
Reason for Selecting the Theory: I picked cognitive stages and structures because of what Piaget said. Piaget says that children construct their own understanding of their world through involvement. Well for Max he had no involvement, so he went out in his imagination world called the forest to make his own understanding of the world. In his world I think he thought of everything to be scary looking and wild looking. The child’s ability to create a monster with mismatch body parts and manage them to look scary is really imaginative as his own understanding of himself being called wild and his interactions with his family.
