I have read a book called “Sula”. I chose this book because I like when you both learn about history, and when the author give you time too really get to know about the characters life’s and how they interact with each other. This book is about how the living conditions were in black communities after World War One. The author Toni Morrison is known for her gift to really include the reader in the lives of the characters. Therefore, I thought this book fitted me perfectly. Toni Morrison is an afro American novelist, born 18. February 1931. Her and her family lived in Lorain, Ohio. It mostly lives afro Americans in “The Bottom”. The little town is located in the hills above an area mostly inhabited by white Americans. A master gave his former slave the land of Bottom. However, the “gift” was hoax. The slave got land with bad conditions, convinced by the master that it was a wonderful opportunity. “It is close to heaven” the master told the slave. Nevertheless, this led to the growth of a vivid community. However, a number of incidents that creates a suspense in their friendship. One day Sula and Nel are down by the river, suddenly a little boy called Chicken Little, a boy from the neighbourhood, turns up. Sula playfully swings him around and around while holding him by his arms. She loses her grip, and Chicken Little falls into the river, and drowns. This is a big turning point in the book. Sula and Nel agrees never to tell anybody about Chicken Little, and they start to grow apart. A few years later Hannah, Sulas mother, is out in front of the house burning some wood, her dress catches on fire. Eva does a valiant effort to save her daughter, unfortunately she fails.
