Night Book Review “In every stiffened corpse, I saw myself” (Wiesel, 2006, page 101). I believe that this quote actively describes the theme of this book. How can someone be so terrified that they are the next person to die, so terrified that they could see themselves being the next one laying on the ground dead, not cared about, unseen in the world? How can someone weep so hard and beg that others stop hurting them, but they keep doing so? The book titled Night by Elie Wiesel is one book that I can reread over and over again and still never feel satisfied with. The book leaves me wanting more, leaves me heartbroken, and leaves me seeking answers. When reflecting on this book, I can also reflect on other Holocaust survivors and their stories. …show more content…

She explained the horrors that she faced and the trials that she and the other ladies around her went through from start to finish. Gerda talked about her time from the moment she was taken into custody until the moment she was found. One factor that stood out to me about her time was the moment before her family was taken by the Nazis. She said, “My father said, “Gerda, where are your snow boots? Put them on.” She asked her father why it was in the middle of the summer and he said, “Gerda you will need them.” (Antholis & Sundberg, 1995) This was incredible for me to hear from her because she talked about how somehow her father was able to save her from many times of pain and suffering because her feet were protected. Gerda also spoke about the times that all of her friends died during the captivity. She spoke about the pain that they suffered and how most of them died even when they were just trying to get basic life necessities like water, food, shelter, etc. She spoke about one friend in particular who she made a bet with. On the train to the camp, one girl named Susie, said she bet that they would never see their homes
