The Hero’s Journey

Joseph Campbell has come up with this idea that there is one three-stage formula- in which he calls the “Hero’s Journey”. This formula is the structure of the story, and is the basic form or shape of something. Most houses have four walls and a roof, they all look slightly different on the outside, but they mostly share this basic structure. Campbell says that although most stories are different on the outside, stories are almost always structured around these three stages. The first stage is when the hero leaves their everyday world and enters into another world, the second stage talks about when the hero is challenged by opposing forces, a series of test they must pass, and whether or not a victory is won. In the last and finally stage if the hero is victorious in the second stage, the hero returns to the ordinary world with a gift for the world. …show more content…

Dorothy has to overcome different obstacles and has series of different tests that she must pass. She has left her home town Kansas after a powerful twister picked her house up and in which it landed in the Land of Oz crushing the Wicked Witch of the East. Every munchkin and Glinda the good witch all praise her, but now the sister the Wicked Witch of the West comes along and swears revenge upon Dorothy and her dog Toto. Trying to find her way make home she must follow the yellow brick road to Emerald City and talk to the Wizard. Will she overcome her obstacles and become a hero? Lets find
