The Acorn People is realistic fiction written by Ron Jones, and is based off of a true story. The main character, Ron Jones, a boy who must overcome prejudice, partiality and weakness in order to work with and help a group of disabled children. He treats them with the respect, kindness, and love they deserve, while also giving them the freedom to move about as they wish. The book displays a group of teens who come together and accomplish more than they have ever dreamed of. Ron Jones goes above and beyond the expectations to exhibit that not only can they perform just as well as any able-bodied person, but that with help and support, anything can be accomplished. Throughout The Acorn People, Ron Jones is a prolific and persevering, enticing, and conducive for his kind personality. His kindness to all the children at camp defined a sense of comfort both in the story, and the reader as well. Jones is an enticing character because he pushes his comfort limits to ensure the safety of the children, and to additionally make the camp fun for them. His intentions in the beginning were based for the good money, and enjoying the camp’s activities and sports. He sees no handicap accessible facilities and this begins to regret his decision after a child has an accident in his arms. The other counselor, Dominic Cavelli, seems totally at ease with the children, and he finds this troubling since he does not understand how to handle this group. No matter how tough things were to get, he and Dominic were able to go beyond their comfort zones to help the handicapped kids. When they were faced with a challenge on Lookout Mountain, they looked for any possible solution to reach the top. Martin announced his successful idea and everyone followed his instruction.
