Judith St. George wrote a book called The Duel about the parallel lives of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. In the book, with 2 different lenses, she talks about them being students. Burr and hamilton had similar experiences but St. George wanted us to see how they are different as well. At only the age of 13, Burr got accepted to the College of New Jersey, now known as Princeton. Hamilton's lens was different.
Isabel Wilkerson is very thorough in this reading. She covers the exodus of blacks from the Deep South beginning with the First World War up to the end of the Civil Rights Movement, and even slightly beyond. Because this occurrence of migration lasted for generations, it was hard to see it while it was happening, and most of its participants were unaware that they were part of any analytical change in black American residency, but in the end, six million African Americans left the South during these years. In addition, the short story included called “Leg Irons” illustrates the life of a African American man named George Washington who runs away from slavery still in chains and manages to get to the Union Lines. Dated on 1861, two years before the Emancipation Proclamation, the union soldiers that captured him didn’t send him back to his master in the south but instead sent him to a camp, where they keep other escapee. The short comic takes us through the series of tests that George had to conquer. One of them presents some union soldiers stopping him and pointing a gun at him however he walks away unharmed until someone else stops him and does the same thing. Journal #1 While reading “The Joy of Nelly Deane” by Willa Cather. Nelly is describe as the prettiest girl in town of Riverbend and she was the happiest. Nelly seems to be free spirited and three of the women in this story was hoping she would go to their church and not the Methodist church. Everyone seem to like Nelly. Nelly and her friends are in a play called “Queen Ester” they have long practices took them three months to make it right.
The novel Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand stands as a biography that captures the real-life experiences of Louie Zamperini, a man who went from living as a troubled boy, to an impeccable runner, and then into a United States soldier. This novel defines the definition of survival. Not only has it sold millions of copies, but is read in many high schools across the world, and became a huge major motion picture. In the book, there is a character who is very close to Louie named Allen Russell Phillips, or better now as Phil. From the beginning of the story and until the end, Phil has changed dramatically.
Mary Beth Norton seems to have entered into a single-minded telling, trying to link the Indian wars as the sole answer to “Essex County Witch Trials”. The French and Indians were involved in an up rise of accusations, sure. But Norton’s reasoning behind how the Indian wars had not happened, maybe these trials would not have occurred, does not make sense. Norton tries to wiggle her out of it by stating that she does not believe that the Second Indian War caused these trials but that it “created the conditions that allowed the crisis to develop as rapidly and as extensively as it did.” As an example she uses “repeated spectral sightings of the black man” and “establishes a crucial connection” found throughout records on Salem, as a direct link
Elements of Fiction Exam The short story, The Sheriff’s Children by Charles W. Chesnutt and the graphic novel, Saga written by Brain K. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples have many similarities despite their differences in written style. Both stories are centered around interracial and interspecies relationships during times of segregation and tensions between the two groups of people and species. The stories have the main protagonists that harbor secrets that would be frowned upon by others in their societies or threaten their lives.

The surroundings of the trials(such as weather)changed from winter all the way through spring 1692.They also were very paranoid of a lot of things. Such as witches and the devil. As Helen Keller once quoted, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken tells the life story of Louis “Louie” Zamperini. Through his troubles as a child, emerged a strong-willed Olympic runner, who later became a military aviator. He was lost at sea and then captured by the Japanese as a prisoner of war. He endured years of abuse and suffering but still managed to stay true to who he was.
At the end of the summer in Freak the Mighty, Freak and Max get to go back to school. Minus the fact that he has never been in one before, Max is put into all advanced classes so he can be with Freak. The reason they are put into classes together is because Freak helps Max write and learn vocabulary by making him look up words he doesn’t know in a dictionary. Freak also helps the teachers understand that Max does know the answers but, he just doesn't like to speak in front of the class. Both in school and out, Max helps Freak with mobility by carrying Freak on his shoulders.

Her stories “A Respectable Woman” and “A Story of an Hour” show a female protagonist who want their freedom and control over their own lives. Her characters pushed the bounds of the roles that society gave them and showed the brutal reality of how women were treated in the 1890s. In “A Respectable Woman” the female protagonist Mrs. Baroda is married and lives on a plantation with her husband, who invites a friend to spend a week or two with them.
