Sign Although the evidence pulled by the the distraught citizens is strong, owners Max Blanck and Isaac Harris along with their lawyer Max Steuer have the right to defend themselves and give their side of the case. They claim that they locked the doors in order to keep the workers from stealing as said back in the History.com article when it states “There were two stairways down to the street, but one was locked from the outside to prevent stealing and the other only opened inward.” This quote plainly shows how the doors stopped the workers from exiting. Going along with that, some workers of the factory even said that the doors were actually unlocked and that there was no way to prove that the doors were locked.

When reading the text “The Scorch Trials” by James Dashner, I combined the use of many reading strategies, For example, I used background knowledge, making connections, inferring, predicting, and questioning. Firstly, based on my background knowledge it isn’t a good idea to trust someone who you just met. This is because you don’t know if their motives are pure or not. While I was thinking about this, I remembered Officer Toni telling us two years ago about how many kids got in trouble when they trusted someone they didn’t know. My connection led me back to the book and the author (James Dashner) describing how Thomas felt when Jorge entered, “Thomas felt a belt of tension cinch inside him” (page 145).
His first few months he is expected to blend in with the crowd, but he doesn’t even know what grade he is in. He can’t stand the school he had wished he were back at home with his mom, dad and brothers. Luke sneaks out of school into the woods where he decides to grow a garden do to the fact that berries were all around. He even steals scraps from the schools lunches for more things to grow. One day Luke is astonished at what he sees.
In "The Scorch Trials," James Dashner paints a dystopian world where friendship and ethical responsibilities take center stage. Through the trials faced by Thomas and his companions, the novel teaches important lessons on friendship, loyalty, and ethical dilemmas. Friendship is a guiding force as Thomas and the Gladers navigate the dangers of the Scorch. They rely on each other for support and protection, showcasing unwavering loyalty. Their bonds become a source of strength, highlighting the power of solidarity in adversity.
Legitimate Evidence “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”- Carl Sagan. The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the injustice of the ‘Red Scare’. Arthur Miller is one of America’s greatest playwrights and is praised for his moral courage for refusing to name names of Communist Party members before the House Unamerican Activities Committee. Another brave man during the time was Herb Block; who made political cartoons such as “I have here in my hands” and “We now have important evidence”. In both Herb Block’s cartoons and Arthur Miller’s play flawed, faulty and unreasonable evidence is used to accuse and convict many innocent people.
The book begins with him in Paris. We learn about his gambling habits, and how he came to be a survivor of Auschwitz. To start he was arrested in a Paris bakery. When he was being arrested he bought a chemistry book with him. He wanted to have the book as a way to be educated as well as give him something to rely on.
During the Salem witch trials, in colonial Massachusetts between 1692 and 1693, more than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft, and more than half were executed. These accused citizens would be placed on trial with a judge and they would either plead guilty or face a series of tests to prove they weren’t witches. In the novel, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller a group of young teenage girls are caught in the act of witchcraft and are used to help seek out the following witches in the village. They become the jury of the court and their judge who is brought in to accuse and place the victims on trial is Judge Thomas Danforth.
