The Book Thief, creates a lot of characters that have chemistry and wouldn 't be the same without each other. For example the main character Liesel and a helping character Max are to that can be seen in having a lot in common or a lot of things that are not the same. Every character in this book face multiple struggles. Now Max and Liesel both face a type of struggle that pertains to love, care and family. This more of the one that occurs throughout to book more sofar. They also face more of a harder struggle that deals with death and heartache. Liesel was adopted and her father knew Max, and Max needs somewhere to hide since he is a Jew during this time. Also they have a deep connection and bond. Since Max and Liesel have a huge support system it helps alot. Liesel has Rudy, Hans and Rosa; those are more of the main one. Max has Hans, Rosa and Liesel and everyone who want to keep him safe. Due to the hard transition Leisel faced at the beginning of the book Hans really helped her out. Not only did she lose her brother, she is being separated from her mother and is being taken in by another family. “Possibly the only good to come out of these nightmares was that it brought Hans Hubermann, her new papa, into the room, to soothe her, to love her.” ( Markus Zusak Page 36 ). Also due to her stealing or in her mind collecting books, she really needed some reassuring that everything would be okay and nothing would happen to her as long as she looked out for Max. “He gave her a list of consequences, if you tell anyone about the man…” ( Markus Zusak Page 203 ). Ths shows how they want everyone to lookout for eachother and they are applying fear to make sure that happens but with love. Now when it comes to Max everyone wants to help and care for him. Not only did they take him in and hide him from the Nazi, they want to make his stay as good as they can. Due to Max living in the basement and not being able to come out Leisel helped him. “On Christma Eve Leisel brought down a double handful of snow as a present for Max” ( Markus Zusak Page 312 ) Both, Max and Liesel used the people they made made relationships with to help them. That could be to pass time, like in max’s case. It could also to help in difficult transitions, like in Liesel 's case. In conclusion both character faced a lot of problems and most of them couldn 't overcome them without the help from others. They faced some the same hardships but due to their circumstances and personalities they had some that were designed for them in a sense.
