Booker T Washington vs W.E.B DuBois is one of the greatest rivalries that won't be forgotten. Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Dubois were two civil rights activists who fought for African Americans to get equal rights. Though they were fighting the same fight, they didn't always see eye to eye in their philosophies. But whose philosophy is better? Many believe that Dubois' philosophy is more efficient and effective, but he overlooks key factors that would greatly impact African Americans. Therefore, Booker T Washington's philosophy will be more effective than W.E.B DuBois because Booker T was able to connect more to African Americans because he was a slave. He knows how to persevere through hard work, and he thought through working hard African Americans could prove they are just as good as white people. Booker T. Washington knows how to overcome challenges through hard work, which is another reason why his philosophy is better than W.E.B. Dubois. Booker T. Washington was able to overcome the dumb slave stereotype when he went to school, while it wasn't common for African Americans to go to school. While W.E.B DuBois went to school, he was able to get a scholarship and was able to go to an all-black school. For example, in 1872 Booker T Washington had the opportunity to go to Tuskegee Institute but didn't have the money to pay, but since he knew how to overcome challenges through hard work, he worked as a cleaner to pay it off. "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that, one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." Clearly, the Booker T. Washington quote shows how he was able to be determined for what he wanted and to be resilient to the people who doubted him. In conclusion, Booker T. Washington knows how to overcome many challenges and obstacles to show how important it is to work
