The film Girl, Interrupted tells the story of a girl, Susanna played by Winona Rider. Susana admitted herself to a mental institution after going to the ER for swallowing a bottle of aspirin mixed with vodka. She denied doing that in hopes of dying. She said she had a headache and was trying to make it better. Susanna has reoccurring flashbacks of events that have happened to her. While in the hospital, her therapist diagnosed her with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). While in the institute, she becomes friends with many girls there. Georgina is a pathological liar, Lisa has an antisocial personality disorder and a sociopath, Polly is a fire victim diagnosed with schizophrenia, and Daisy has OCD, self-harm, and is addicted to laxatives. It is unclear if Melvin is her father, but her father also sexually abused Daisy. In the movie, they all have a secret place in a maze under the ward. There is a bowling lane where they can play and be themselves. It also has a tunnel into the counselor's office where they can read their whole diagnoses. Susanna was described as being promiscuous and having a Borderline personality. Later on, her boyfriend visits her, they go outside. While they are talking, Tobias says he wants them to escape together and go to Canada. He is being drafted into the army and wants to leave before he can get commissioned. Susanna declines and says that she wants to leave but not with him. They part ways. Susanna finds out that an orderly is infatuated with her. He wants them to be together after she gets out.
