Introduction
There are many different characteristics and traits that leaders have that influence those around them. Some of us are born leaders, while others have to learn to develop the necessary skills to become a leader. Nonetheless, each individual person will come across a time in their life where they are needed or able to display their leadership skills. Determining when that situation is can be the challenging part.
Are we all leaders?
In our textbook, “Leading with Communication: A Practical Approach to Leadership Communication,” there is a section that talks about a leader being someone special. Although, I agree with this statement to a certain extent, I believe that we can all be leaders. Everyone gets put in a situation where they have to take control where they are depended on, and if they want to resolve that particular situation, they must step up and become a leader. These may be teachers, coaches, or politicians, to name a few. More specifically the leaders I can name who have had a major impact on those around them are Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and Mahatma Gandhi. These individuals may seem like they were born to lead, but if you look at their upbringing or early years of their lives, they were ordinary people. It was not until they became more experienced in their lives where they became extraordinary people who lead others. They were put in adverse situations and called upon to resolve them accordingly. They were able to personify certain characteristics that included poise, confidence, and motivation for change, among others. These are just a few examples of people who have had an impact on a multitude of people including myself, in the way they carried themselves and became
