His detailed perspective on how poverty, social attitudes, and public policy have changed over the years. According to the PBS Frontline video “Poor Kids” 2012, more than 46 million Americans are living beneath the poverty line. The United States alone has one of the highest rates of child poverty in the industrialized world. It is stated that 1 out of 5 children are living in poverty. The video documented the lives of three families who are faced with extreme hardships and are battling to survive a life of being poor. All three families have more than one child and could barely afford to pay their bills and purchase food for their household.
Bridges out of Poverty provided valuable insight on how to better understand the constructs of poverty, as well as offering strategies for how to help those living in poverty transition to middle class. The book was designed to help readers recognize and address issues contributing to poverty. There are many different hidden rules that exist within each socioeconomic class. Using the resources available in this book can help those living in poverty gain insight on what is trapping them in the poverty cycle. There was a movie titled “The pursuit of Happyness” made in 2006 which explores the idea of extreme poverty in the states. The movie is about a man named Chris Gardner ( played by Will smith) and his son Christopher ( Played by Jaden Smith) who becomes extremely poor as well as homeless so he has to try to get back on top of things. Although, the movie never says why he is poor we can infer.

I have been reading the book " Whiskey words & a shovel " by R.H. Sin it is a poem book about his feelings and his thoughts about relationships and women. Never the less, it’s ironic how in the 21st century we prize ourself for being progressive when almost half of us - over 3 billion people - can’t even conjure up what life is like beyond ‘the poverty trap’ they are in. We prize ourselves, when one out of every two children is poor. Can you imagine growing up as one of the 640 million kids whom have no adequate shelter, let alone a place to call home? Or the 400 million to whom safe drinking water is simply a figment of their imagination? Or maybe the 270 million who have no means of getting health care?
