The Bosnian-Serbian war started with the breakup of Yugoslavia which happened on a long period of time before and after the fall of the Soviet Union. Yugoslavia was a part of the Austrian/Hungarian empire that was allied with the Serbian kingdom. Austro Hungarian empire included Croat, Slovenian and Bosnian territories. Yugoslavia broke up for a short period of time during WWII under Nazi occupation, and with the creation of Nazi allied independent Croat state. But it was later re-united by the end of the war when the communist party lead by Josip Broz Tito took over the country.
