Bottom adds comedy to the play. he is decribed as "the shallowest thick-skin of that barren sort" by the Athenians and "simply the best wit of any hadicraft man in athens" by his lower class peers. he loves to talk, hear his own voice, and he wants to play all the parts in Prymus and Thisbe but he has to settle for Prymus, acting with over dramatic flair in near the end of the play. scince hes always talking non-sense, the fairies play with him. bottom is the most important minor character in the play.
Bottom is the most important minor character in the play for many reasons, one of them is that Bottoms language adds comedy to the play. without Bottom the play wouldnt be as fun and entertaining. for example, he says if he played the role of thisbe he would speak the lines in a "monstrious little voice" which is obviosly a contradictory statemeant. Then he would "aggravate" his voice if he played the lion's role so that the ladies in the audience would not be scared. once again his word choice shows his silliness and adds comedy to theplay. also, rather than worry about his acting performance, he worries about which beard would be the most effective for the Prymus role.
