As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
If I were to change one thing in my community, I would change the school lunches, because they taste horrendous, and they need to be healthier. First, the lunches should not be processed foods because those use a lot of chemicals that are harmful to the body. Some examples of processed foods are foods that come pre made or from a box or a can. Processed foods usually contain more con syrup and sugars, usually addicting and can make you gain weight, contains many artificial ingredients, high in carbohydrates, and uses lots of oils that are usually processed as well.
Why the school supporting to change a lunch menu. Some students' favorite food will be eliminate so they can't eating in a cafeteria . Each year having different rules about healthier lunch menu. It's a good idea an my opinion to change to new menu. Students' they don't like the pizza and cheeseburger at the school because to much fat on them.
Students learn how to interact with other kids their age, be respectful, make new friends, and overall mature to become the best they can be, while also being prepared for life after school. In order for these students to not only learn the school subjects that are stepping stones for the rest of their academics, careers, and future jobs. Students need other time in school to work on these other important skills, lunch is this exact time. In order to maximize students conversing and making connections, all students should see each other as equals and companions. A problem with the school lunch system currently is that “Students who qualify for free school meals often receive different meals or are forced to stand in different lines, which can lead to stigma and abuse from their peers” (Besser and Bussell).
Determining the healthiness of food being served to students during school lunches is a very important subject. Although eating healthy is important it should not be the only factor contributing to whether or not taking away students favorite school lunches is beneficial. I don't believe that it is a good idea to take away students favorite school lunches and replacing them with all healthy foods is a good idea because of these three reasons. One, the cost of the healthier food, two, the student environment and mood of the school, and three, the fairness to the students whose only meal is the lunch they receive at school.
The food at the school is not very good. Yes, it is edible but not very tasty. Not only food but students need time away from school. So they can relax and get ready for the second half of school.
While some people may think that it is a good idea for our principal to change our lunch menus to something much more healthy I think it is a bad idea for our principal to change it, the reasons why I feel that it should not be changed is because most student's pay for lunch, most student's will not eat the food, most student's buy snacks at lunch. One of the main reasons why I feel like it is a bad idea is because most students have to pay for lunch. When student's pay for their lunch they expect that it is something worth them spending money on. Also when student's or people in general don't like something they will refuse to pay for it. When student's don't pay for lunch then the school will lose money.
For example, sometimes the school will serve spaghetti in little plastic bowls with meatballs. But unfortunately, the meals are so popular that by the time students come to fifth lunch about an hour later, all the food is gone. Or, if there is still some left, it is soggy and lukewarm under the dull heat lamps. The consequence is that some students have to pick another meal, or they have to eat an unsatisfactory lunch that will leave them hungry for the rest of the day, like eating one roll of cheap, and usually stale, mini donuts. Finally, there are mental benefits of having first lunch over
Did you know that the biden-harris administration invested 80 million in grants for schools to invest in new food service equipment This topic about school lunches is important to discuss because we see that even though the food is healthier we see that a lot of the students don't eat it, and when their is smart slices of domino's we see that the lines in school are long, because it's something that people want to eat, While some argue that school lunches should not change, school lunches should be changed because they have small proportions and they are expensive. I think that the school lunches that they give should be changed, because the lunch is the biggest part of the day and a bad lunch can ruin it, even if it has to be healthy there's a lot of other stuff that is healthy in other stuff, also we see that sometimes the food is overcooked or undercooked, and it takes to long for you to get the food, and when you get it lunch is basically over, According to Sophia Lang “The high school I graduated from in Indiana consisted of a two-period, 45-minute lunchtime block. We had a number of lunch lines but people in them were never evenly distributed, resulting in lines that went up the stairs and through the doors. My friends and I complained frequently. When more than half of that time is spent waiting, the remaining time to eat becomes close to none,""School lunches encourage students to develop
For all the cuts that have been made to school foods, six percent has not been a big decrease. School lunches don’t provide any nutritional value for the kids. The purpose for a school lunch is to provide kids with a dependable lunch that has good proportional amounts and nutrition value. The obesity rates need to drop higher and faster in the next ten years if they want to make cuts out of our meals and the meals need to be proportioned to size.
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
Not necessarily things to make you want to eat school lunch, but could possibly change your opinions on it. Schools cannot put more nutrients than required, therefore if they do they could get in trouble because it is a required law to be followed. “These federal rules say that a school lunch can 't provide more than 30% of a child 's daily requirement of fat or 10% of saturated fat. Further, the lunch must provide at least one-third of the child 's daily requirements of protein and vitamins." (Healthy Lunches) "Researchers have found that students are better able to concentrate during the afternoon if they have eaten a well-balanced lunch that provides sustainable energy (unlike quick fix snacks such as candy bars or soft drinks, which lead to a rapid rise and fall in blood sugar levels).
To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate.
“Today approximately 16% of America 's youth are classified as obese,” in that case, changing one meal a day could prevent as much as 6% of America’s youth from becoming obese. The main issue in the cause to start making school lunch the healthy option of a students day is the undeniable fact; people love debilitating foods. Even when you are an infant in the womb, the one, only thing you crave is sugar. The best
Cafeteria food in schools is made to be healthy for students, but is it really healthy for students if they think it is foul and do not want to eat it? Should schools change the healthy foods to foods that students would actually want to eat? School food’s job is to be healthy and tasty to get the students through their day, but sadly school lunches tend to miss the mark on both accounts. Public schools rely on money from the government to supply food to their students, but due to several cutbacks the thing served in the cafeteria is hardly food at all. We all know the stereotypical school food mystery meat Monday or a slab of grey mush and sadly that is not too far from what it is in reality.
