The fashion here is certainly better than ours. Women dress in linen and wool clothing. It is usually more conservative than men’s clothing. I befriended a kind craftswoman who helped me fit in. She told me all about Egyptian fashion which I will write about. I bought a simple sheath dress, a rectangular piece of cloth folded once and sewn down the edge to make a tube. The dress extends from a few inches above the ankles to just above or just below the chest. The noblewomen wear a shawl, or sari. Those are very popular among upper class women. Almost all Egyptians wear black, braided wigs. They are very proud of their wigs and make no attempt to pretend they are natural. Not wearing one is an embarrassment; it is a sign of poverty.
