Biography
Bram Stoker was born on November 8th, 1847 in Dublin, Ireland. Originally named Abraham Stoker, he was the 3rd of seven children. As a child, he was often very ill. As a result, he read copious amounts of books and listened to scary tales his mother would orate to him. His mother was Charlotte Matilda Blake Thornley Stoker, and his father was Abraham Stoker.
In 1864, Bram Stoker enrolled into the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. He soon graduated with honors in mathematics degree. Bram was then hired as a civil servant at the Dublin Castle, The Dublin castle was owned by British Royals in Ireland for over a century. He owns a large castle in Transylvania. Dracula tries to relocate himself to London, England and create an empire of vampires there. He has a very strong face with a thin nose and arched nostrils. His eyebrows are massive and his mustache hangs over his upper lip. Sharp white teeth protruded over his lips. Dracula had an evil reputation by the citizens at his hometown. People tried to ward him off from going to Dracula’s castle but he did not listen. Dracula, being a vampire, was always unable to socialize with others during the day time, but always returned in the evening and at night. He only consumed human blood, and always told Jonathan Harker that he had already ate. Dracula has a psychedelic power that allows him to communicate with certain animals such as wolves. Dracula can only sleep when he is near his home soil. While Jonathan Harker was pleading him to leave the dreaded castle, Dracula was able to get wolves to come to the front door and force Jonathan to stay another night. His wife is Mina Murray. His firm tells him to travel to Transylvania to help Dracula conclude and finalize the Count’s purchase of property somewhere in London, England. Later on in the story, Count Dracula seeks to use this property for his vampire takeover in London. Jonathan starts to take notes in his journal of the weird experiences he encounters in the evil castle. He realizes that there are no servants or maids in the castle. Jonathan notices that Dracula has no reflection, wields very sharp teeth, and is peculiarly strong. Jonathan often has to dine by himself, due to the fact that Dracula always says that he already ate. Despite the Count’s warning not to sleep in any other room but his own, Jonathan falls asleep in a guest room and is almost bitten by three vampire women. My favorite part of the book is when Jonathan ventures through the house into the lair where Dracula sleeps, and takes notice that the vampire has no heartbeat and sleeps with his eyes open. Mr. Harker records all these experiences in his journal. Soon after, he realizes Dracula and his coffin were shipped to London and he escapes the terrible castle by scaling down the wall. At this part in the book, Harker is transported to a mental hospital. It was not until he hears news of Dracula entering London, Harker is released from the hospital and is determined to hunt down and destroy the vampire. Jonathan Harker becomes more motivated to kill
