Two ways the teacher adjusts instruction to meet the needs of the students is to create lessons for different learning styles and provide a response accommodation for a student with a learning disability.
The teacher is mindful of the different learning styles of his students therefore, he integrates reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing within the unit. He assigned Aldous Huxley’s dystopian novel, Brave New World over the summer which deals with technology, cloning, genetic manipulation, and government control. The students were required to maintain an introductory journal, read, and view various texts. The teacher showed video clips from United Streaming, TED talks, and YouTube, which directly related to their readings. These methods appeal to a class with diverse learning styles. The teacher also provides response accommodations for one of his students that receive special services for writing and spelling. This student struggles with spelling basic vocabulary but he is very articulate and can verbally communicate effectively.
