In The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, Thomas, the main character, is faced with a lot of conflicts. The book even starts off with an immediate conflict, of getting placed into the Glades with no memory. He faces some tough conflicts, both internal and external. Whether it is the memory loss, the Maze, or even a decision Thomas has to make there is always a different conflict in the Glades. This is shown due to the fact that without external conflict the internal won’t exist.

In James Dashner’s The Maze Runner, the main protagonist, Thomas, battles for what he thinks is right, by acting before he thinks, and not by what he is told, showing that making decisions should come from the heart for what feels right and not what is mandated or forced.
In the novel The Things They Carried, Tim O’Brien expresses to the reader why the men went to the war and continued to fight it. In the first chapter, “The Things They Carried,” O’Brien states “It was not courage, exactly; the object was not valor. Rather they were too frightened to be cowards.” The soldiers went to war not because they were courageous and ready to fight, but because they felt the need to go. They were afraid and coped with their lack of courage by telling stories (to themselves or aloud) and applied humor to the situations they encountered.

The novel, The Kite Runner, tells a story about two incredibly strong and courageous boys, who have to find their way back from a dreadful thing which they thought they could never forget. The two boys are guided by their father, Baba, who is also looking for forgivness in himself. In the end, all of the boys find redemption for their wrongdoings. One of the boys, Hassan, shows extreme courage from the very beginning of the book.
There are a couple different themes in this book. One of the themes in this book is "new beginnings". The reason I say that this a theme in the book is that every time someone new enters The Glade they remember nothing but their name and that's it. When you enter The Glade no one knows you and you remember nothing about yourself, and from there you can make yourself into any kind of person you want. The next theme I found in this book was "bravery".

Some universal themes that appear in this movie are heroic scenarios, social cohesion, interesting ways in which the story is told, and building empathy. Heroic scenarios are when a character jumps in at an attempt to save the day. In The Maze Runner, Thomas was often the hero.
When thinking from a perspective, the audience often focuses on the basics, such as a small part relating to the movie, when there is so much more depth and understanding that comes from it. In The Maze Runner, directed by Wes Ball, the audience's perspective changed when the main character, Thomas, does a very outrageous act to prove himself, which results in a completely different ending than most assumed. Thomas's actions were significant to the movie's turning point that changed how the viewer's outlook on Thomas, forcing the audience to look outside of The Maze Runners' original plot and identify attitudes that modified Thomas's true intentions. Running the Maze Imagine being trapped inside of a place with no memory of how you got there and the only way to get out was through a maze. James Dashner’s young adult, science fiction novel, The Maze Runner is about just that. There were a brunch of themes in the novel but the most important ones were maintaining rules and orders, making sacrifices, never giving up, and manipulation, even though something may look simple it might be harder than it seems. All these themes were practiced by Thomas and other Gladers in the Glade. Dashner also wrote the sequels to the Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials and Death Cure.

The Creators put the boys through a trial to determine who will give up and who will persist. How the boys respond to the trials they go through gives readers insight into the author’s message, or theme, which is that friendship helps those who are lost become found.
