There are various positions that fall under the communications spectrum, but photojournalism is one that holds the most temptation for unethical choices. Advancing technology is one of the most prominent reasons for this occurrence because it allows professionals to easily alter and publish their photos and stories. While changing a photo may not seem like an issue, it is in fact breaking a code of ethics that professionals are to expected to uphold and ruining their professional relationships with the public. The public puts their trust in those delivering the news from every medium to tell the truth, but often the full truth is not disclosed. Rising competition and the opportunity to make money are the reasons that often entice people to make the decision to alter photos. Whether photo representations are truthful or not does not matter to some when being the best photojournalist is at stake. Mistakes are often made, but sometimes they are deliberate. Editing a photo to an extreme where original context is lost can only be done intentionally. There are fine lines that appear when working in a field such as photojournalism because there are codes to follow and issue to deal with, but certain lines should never be crossed. Losing a job over posting a photo without permission is not worth it, neither is never working in the field again because you blatantly ignored the rules put in place by the company. Photojournalism, along with other jobs in the communications field, is one that really should be taken serious. Abusing the technology given is not the way to become the best. Money and competition can drive people to make choices that could change their entire lives, and photojournalism is one of those professions where one mistake can cost a person their entire
