Brick, is a 2005 mystery/crime film directed by Rian Johnson. The film elucidates the story of a teenage loner Brendan Frye, who discovered the death of his girlfriend, and strived to solve the murder case himself. By infiltrating high-school coteries, his search for the truth leads to a dangerous confrontation with a drug dealer known as "the Pin”. Ultimately, his scrutinization guided him to suspect the veracity of the murder and unearth the truth. The following scene occurred after Brendon’s initial approach with “the Pin”. The scene commences as Brendan opens his locker, where he discovered a note which is identical to another note he found previously. And as he closed his locker and started to walk, he encounters a man, who holds a knife and stabbed Brendan. Brendan escaped as the unknown man tried to chase him. The scene was established as an action scene, however, it raised several questions to the plot level. First, the man who came to stab Brendan was never introduced nor mentioned in the storyline before, therefore leading to the query of the identity of the man. Second, from the knowledge the audience has established from the previous scenes and storyline, it is incontrovertible that there are indications of potential enemies to Brendan, however, there is no clear evidence to show anyone who has the intention of killing Brendan. On the character establishment level, the scene also introduced various questions. As can be shown in previous plots, the audience may believe that Brendan is characterized by his intelligence and bravery, as can be seen in his meticulousness and heedfulness nature.
