Introduction A seventy-year old man, Tommy Burdette, was asleep in his bed on a December evening when thirty-three year old, Brandon Bledsoe and his girlfriend twenty-one-year-old, Heather Raftery, broke into his home with the intent to steal from him. Divorced at the time and living alone, he was out numbered. According to Burdette’s neighbors, he predominantly kept to himself. Retired teacher of many years in the Calhoun County area, lost his life that night. Brandon Bledsoe lived in the same cul-de-sac as Burdette and it’s said that Bledsoe borrowed money and never repaid Burdette. Bledsoe planned to repay Burdette with the money stolen from the residence of Tommy Burdette. This case study will follow Heather Raftery in the criminal justice system relating to the accused crimes of arson and murder. Brief Description of the Case Bledsoe, armed with a .22 caliber rifle, shot Burdette several times in the upper torso and neck area, then he and Raftery proceeded to steal numerous items from the home. Among the items stolen was two televisions, personal cash, jewelry and a weapon (YouTube, 2015).
