Characters Violet: Violet is the eldest Baudelaire child. She is fourteen years old and loves inventing new things. Violet had a talent for inventing and building strange devices, so her brain was often filled with images of pulleys, levers, and gears, and she never wanted to be distracted by something as insignificant as her hair, so she always tied it with a ribbon. Violet is helpful, cautious and pleasant. After her parents death she took the lead of her siblings and fortune. During the story she tries in an attempt to rescue Sunny but fails. I would like to have more of these characters in stories, because they are good role models in helping and taking care of their siblings. Klaus: Klaus is the middle child. He is about twelve years old and he is extremely brave and intelligent. He is the only boy in the Baudelaire family. The Baudelaire parents had an enormous library in their house, a room filled with thousands of books on nearly every subject. Being only twelve, Klaus had read many of the books and had taken a lot of his knowledge from his readings. He knew how to tell an alligator from a crocodile. He works with his older sister to figure out ways out of the bad situations they face. He was the one who figures out Count Olaf's criminal marriage plans by reading a book on nuptial law. Poe: Mr. Poe is a banker who approaches the Baudelaire’s with bad news about their parents’ death. Even though Mr. Poe offers the children a place to stay while he finds them a guardian, he doesn't care about them as much as caring about their fortune. He barley stays at home and he always describes himself as very busy. He leaves the orphans with Count Olaf even though he know that the man and his house are filthy and that the Count Olaf just has an interest in the Baudelaire fortune. When the children go to visit him in his bank to tell him about their bad situation with Count Olaf, Mr. Poe somewhat ignores
