My name is Martha Corey and I live in the town of Salem Massachusetts. I was born in 1620 grew up in New England where I met my first husband and we had a son together, Thomas. Once my husband passed away I became a widow and moved to the town of Salem Massachusetts. The town of Salem was filled with so many horrible events that I wish I had known before it was to late. In the town of Salem I met my new husband Giles Corey and was no longer a widow. The town was made up of mostly white people like my husband and myself but there was some occasional black slave in our town. The Puritan church was thought of very highly so being as I was a white female it was natural for me to join the Puritan church of Salem. Witchcraft is what was finally announced as to what the girls were doing in the woods and the town went mad. I thought to myself how absurd that was because I did not believe in witch trails and strongly agreed with the beliefs of my church. That one little word “witchcraft” took over the town of Salem like a disease and the girls were accusing everyone of being a witch trying to cover up their tracks. I was accused of witchcraft along with several other people, and I soon found out my hobby of reading books is what lead me to being accused. Everyone seemed shocked when my name was brought into the Salem Witch Trails of 1692 because I was a newly accepted member of the church. The day of my trail I was confident that I would be released as a free women and I planned on being completely honest because I had nothing to hide.
