The Speech in the Virginia Convention by Patrick Henry and the Speech in the Convention by Benjamin Franklin both have similarities and differences but they are both about the views on compromise and when to stand firm. Hypocrisy is one of the worst moral crimes someone can commit. Benjamin Banneker's letter to Thomas Jefferson explains that he has committed this crime. He has gone back on his morale of everyone having unalienable rights by letting slavery continue to happen, and Banneker believes he is the prime contender in allowing this crime to happen and that he should be the start and make the move to stop slavery. Banneker explains this to Jefferson in such a way that the letter is both respectful and thoughtful while also being rude due to the use of how he phrases his sentences, that his argument can not be questioned because of his use of ‘Sir’ to show his respect, and his ardent choice of words which are all collectively used to explain how Jefferson is being hypocritical and show him why he should fix this.
'There was more that divided the United States than united them in 1845.' To what extent do you agree with this statement? Aside from the issue of slavery, in 1845 the north and south had different ideals on industrial development and social issues, but mostly shared a common outlook due to their shared economy, society, culture, and political system. Differences between the north and south were dwarfed by their common interest in establishing a new nation, but sectionalism still steadily grew stronger and divided the United States.
The Production of Cotton from 1800-1860 The production of cotton during 1800-1860 in America started because of many factors that influenced America to start their own industries. According to The American Nation Beginnings to 1877, before the Industrial Revolution most of the Americans manufactured goods were imported from Britain, however due to the war of 1812, Britain blocked the United States from getting goods. The many factors that influenced the increased production of cotton from 1800-1860 were the resources that Americans had, the demand for cotton, and the technology that helped the production of cotton.
On September 2nd, 1862, Abraham Lincoln famously signed the Emancipation Proclamation. After that, there’s been much debate on whether Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation truly played a role in freeing the slaves with many arguments opposing or favoring this issue. In Vincent Harding’s essay, The Blood-red Ironies of God, Harding argues in his thesis that Lincoln did not help to emancipate the slaves but that rather the slaves “self-emancipated” themselves through the war. On the opposition, Allen C Guelzo ’s essay, Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation: The End of Slavery in America, argues in favor of the Emancipation Proclamation and Guelzo acknowledges Lincoln for the abolishment of slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation.
Henry Harrison who used the democratic techniques of portraying yourself as a common man to get elected. In order to win Harrison and the Whig party used Jacksons technique of being a "common man" and appealing to the lower class. He did this by portraying himself as "Farmer from North Bend" who was here to get rid of Jacksons influence in the government and to get rid of Jacksons men who were placed in the government due to the spoil system. However, in reality Harrison was a part of one the first families Virgina and owned a mansion on a 3,000-acre farm. Harrison and the Whig party brilliantly deceived and lied to the whole United States while still giving rise to mass democracy by appealing to the common people instead of the rich folks
Election of 1860 My sticky note, The Election of 1860, was a very important part and greatly influenced the start of the Civil War. The reason behind this statement is that many people in the south opposed Lincoln as becoming president. Southerners feared that slaves would revolt and did not have trust in Lincoln. Northerners liked what Lincoln had to offer and wanted him to become president.

A historical figure that has had an influence on me is Ishmael Beah. His story of a child at war is truly inspiring. He ran to save his life at such a young age and he was captured and “brain-washed” into the war in Sierra Leone during the nineties. From his memoir, A Long Way Gone he enlightened me that there is no right side to war, both sides of the war are destructive, both sides recruited children to fight and both forced recruits to do drugs that altered their way of thinking. In the memoir, UNICEF saves him from the war by bartering for the children and they saved as much children as they could.
