In Drink Cultura, Jose Antonio Burciaga gives a brief tour through Chicano history, food, mythology, and politics.It is a book about the Chicano experience of living between, within, and sometimes outside of two cultures. Each chapter is a brief discourse on its chosen topic with personal observation, family stories, and humor, these essays feed the reader with a bit of Chicanismo that are set up for the reader to breeze through quickly and then think about it for as much time as required.Burciaga incorporates a title in every story with a hint of what the writing will be about : Con Safos, Pendejismo, The Joy of Jalapeños, The Great Taco War, All The Things I Learned in School Weren't Necessarily True, Piñatas, and The Last Supper of Chicano Heroes. …show more content…

In "Pinatas" he writes about the history of the Pinata, and how it has evolved. In "The Motherland" he writes about the term Chicano, and how the meaning has changed over time. In “ the joy of Jalapenos” he talks of the different types of chilies and how if the Chile does not make oneself sweat , one is not doing it right. In ,“The Great Taco War is”, Burciaga is amazed that a Taco Bell would open in the Mission District of San Francisco. The Mission is an area of Mexican and Latino influence and the home of world-famous taquerias that offer authentic tacos and burritos to crowds of customers who often wait in lines that reach out the door.
