Left Out by Tim Green. Setting: This story is set in New York where an NFL team plays and football is important. This story takes place in Bronxville, New York, where football is everything. Bronxville Middle School and the football field also play a big role in the setting. This is where Landon, the main character, battles many issues and where most of the conflicts take place. Characterization: Landon Dorch is the protagonist of my book. When he was born he was deaf and then at the age of 4 he got cochlear implants to help him hear. Due to him hearing later on and having a speech impediment, he was moved back a grade into his little sister’s grade. His sister is named Genevieve. Throughout the book Landon struggled with his football skills but with the help of his best friend Brett, his parents, and Jonathan Wager, Brett's uncle who is an NFL player, he gets a spot on the football team. Yes, the character’s inner thoughts and feelings accurately reflect their actions. For example, the people who are nice to Landon are his parents, Genevieve, Brett, and Megan (Genevieve’s best friend). The people who aren’t nice to him are Coach Furnster, Skip, Xander, and Mike. Coach Furnster does not like Landon because of his implants and thinks he can’t play football so he will not play him. human. First, the conflict is human vs. human because Skip is Landon’s bully and he does many things throughout the book to bully Landon. Landon looks different from everyone else and this is why he is bullied. First, Landon and Skip first met at a diner when Landon had just moved into town. When Landon walked in, Skip called him a giant and then called him Frankenstein. Landon is a very strong boy but because of being really big, he was called these names. This caused him to feel embarrassed right away when moving into a new town. Then when Skip and his friends left the diner, they mumbled mean words to Landon that he didn’t hear. But, his sister, Genevieve, heard what they said, resulting in her shoving Skip into another table, knocking down drinks on another table. Second, one day at school when Landon was walking down the hallway with Megan, Skip saw this and then started to beat up Landon punching him multiple times before being stopped by a teacher. After this, Megan broke up with Skip and this made his anger grow even more. Third, Skip made a plan for Mike to sneak into the bathroom, well Landon was in there and then take a picture of him and then post it on social media. Earlier that day, Megan heard a girl who didn’t like Landon as well on the plan with Skip. Then she told Genevieve and when she found out she went right outside the bathroom to stop them when they came out of the bathroom. She struggled to stop them
