733 Words3 Pages

I chose the image of a book and a key. This represents the novel because language is a tool, like a key, that creates connection, meaning, power (like Hitler and Nazi’s), and comfort. This also represents the secrets liesel keeps, which represents her courage and bravery. In the beginning of the story, Narrator is introduced ,Liesel is on a train with her brother and mother
Dreams of Hitler, brother dies, buy him on next station, steals a book
Mother cannot take care of her, Munich, Molching Germany, foster parents, very sad

Liesel huge wake-up call is when she goes to a Hitler parade(birthday), she hears a word Kommenist, and realizing her dad was killed because of Hitler. Chanting hate words. She tells Hans she hates Hitler, slaps her and says she must never say that or family will be in danger. Reading Hans, stealing food, and books from anywhere (library), read to Max to improve her reading skills, writing her book.
Breakthrough: When Max tells her of how powerful words are later on, she realizes that language is not just something normal, it is a way to spread ideas and gain power like HItler. Max make books and give it to her as a present
Hardships: Hans and Max leaving, the coming of war which the character don’t know as well as the reader, new arrogant stealing leader, organizes the attacks and helps steals
Homecoming - Writes a book in her basement, survives the war and the narrator gives her “the book thief” (she made)
My theme statement is In extreme duality, one discovers both extreme acts of beauty and brutality. By extreme duality, I mean the constarst of opinions in Nazi Germany , such as some people who adore Hitler, and others who hate Hitler, but off course cannot openly say
