In the article “The Amazing Powers Of Jen Bricker,” by Kristin Lewis, it talks about A girl named Jen, who had a disability, she was also adopted by the Bricker Family. Also a poem called “Can’t,” by Edgar Albert, talks about the word can’t and what it really means. The quote from Helen Keller, “Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow,” means that you should always stay optimistic and determined, this relates to both the article and the poem because the both talk about optimism. First off, Jen had a disability that she overcame by being optimistic and determined.
Revolutionary Mothers by Carol Berkin is about woman in the time of the Revolutionary War that were affected by this event. When writing this monograph, Berkin focuses on the Patriot and Loyalist, American and British, and Indian and African American women. When Berkin writes in this way she makes the war seem more diverse to different groups of women and families. Although, there was a mixture of women they had similar qualities about them the author made clear she appreciates. All the women were tough, physically and emotionally along with being brave.

I read the book Across Five Aprils, a historical fiction book. Across Five Aprils was published in 1964, and written by Irene Hunt. The book takes place in Illinois when the civil war is beginning in Illinois when the civil war is beginning in 1861. Jethro is the main character and is 9 years old at the start of the book. Jethro grows up in the civil war watching his family be spilt apart when two of his brothers go fight for the north (the union) and one of his brothers Bill go to fight for the south(confederate).
In An Hour Before Daylight, Jimmy Carter reflects upon his life as he grew up in rural Georgia. The memoir highlights the people who helped shape his life while he was attending school and working on his family’s farm. Throughout An Hour Before Daylight, Carter conveys the idea that racism is a learned behavior by utilizing regional dialect, vivid imagery, and unforgettable experiences to create tone and structure that allow the audience to truly understand what it was like to live in the South while segregation still existed. Within each chapter, Carter uses regional dialect to develop realistic characterizations of people who played a significant role in his upbringing.
Octavia Butler uses symbolism to highlight how the irregular occurrence of time travel forces Dana to accept slavery and how her past will “live” in her presence. Dana is forced to assimilate to the past because she has no control over her fate, and her life in the past revolves around slavery. The fact that Dana quickly transitions from the past to the present shows that she is quick to accept this time of slavery even though she is not mentally prepared for it. After Dana is disturbed by the inhumanity that the children show by playing an auction game, she says, “The ease. Us, the children… I never realized how easily people could be trained to accept slavery” (Butler 101).

The novel Looking for Alibrandi, by Melina Marchetta. This book is about a seventeen year old girl named, Josephine Alibrandi who is in the final year of school. This is a fictional novel that explores the identity of Australian teens, multiculturalism, and teenage life. Josie is the school captain of her girl’s private school called, St. Martha’s.
For certain people, it is easy to adjust to new locations. Meanwhile, others tend to carry the culture and unique memories from their hometowns firmly, making adaptation difficult when relocating to novel places. This kind of attachment is inclined to people who live in the city, in this case, New York City. An increasing number of people believed that we owned many responsibilities towards future generation. Any action we take in present will affect the upcoming generation in a bad or good way. One of the obvious reason we should considered future generation is simply because they are human too. As a human, we have moral right towards other human- being, and should act in a way that maximize their benefits. Although lot of people believes in a concept that future generations are human and human worth, many philosophers like Annette Baier question their existence with the problem called Futurity problem.
