I Kayley Kerner badge number 5, on November 30, 2017 at 2:00 am received a call to 907 20 Berkeley Place about a disturbance complaint made by fellow tenant at the apartment building Akela Bacoonan. When arrived on scene Ephraim Sandoval who is the manager of the apartment building let me into the building and told me where the apartment that caused the disturbance was. When I arrived outside the room I could hear yelling from inside. I knocked on the door and heard a man yelling “Shut up!”, so I proceeded to knock again and asking to be let in as I am a police officer. At 2:17 am, I request for back up to come assist me at the apartment building. At 2:25 am Officer Amy Heavyrunner appeared on scene and took Silissa into a separate room for questioning. I begin to question Oscar on why the disturbance was occurring and he explains that his wife Silissia had miswrote 3 checks that eventually bounced creating the fight to occur as it wasn’t the first incident that his wife had miswrote checks that bounced which created them to pay additional banking fees. Oscar admitted to losing his cool but to no specific extent. Shortly after Officer Heavyrunner entered the room and told me she got a confession from Silissia that she was abused by her husband and the bruise on her right cheek was from her him pushing her into the wall. I then placed Oscar was placed under arrest after I read him his Miranda rights, and searched him for any weapons or dangerous goods. My investigation revealed the following, when I arrived on scene at 2:25 am. When arrived on scene Ephraim Sandoval who is the manager of the apartment building let me into the building and I joined Officer Kerner in the apartment of the Valhalik family. I introduce myself as Officer Heavyrunner and asked Silissia to join me in the other to discuss what the cause of the disturbance was. When we got in the other room Silissia broke down crying saying she didn’t know what to do because she didn’t want to lose her husband but she couldn’t handle the continuation of the verbal and physical abuse that she received from her husband. She explains this isn’t the first time he had lost his temper and harmed her but the other times didn’t leave a bruise in such a visible place. Silissia explained the fight originally began from her miswriting 3 checks which lead them to have to pay additional bank fees. He then began to raise his voice and shoved her into the wall which caused the bruise on her face. I then explain to her that her husband needs help and will need to be taken to the station and will most likely receive court mandated anger management sessions, as well, I give her a number for a hotline dedicated for victims of domestic abuse in case she wants to talk to others about her experience.
