And then he is not”(Reynolds 1). What would you do if you saw a black kid being beat up by a white cop due to the fact he is not even try to resist or fight back? In the book, All American Boys by: Jason Reynolds, Quinn, a white high school tennager and Rashad, a black ROTC teenager. These 2 teenagers are completely different people that are classmates at the same high school like Rashad is a kid with art skills and Quinn is an underage drinker, that parties a lot more than he should. Back to the question, what would you do if you did nothing wrong, yet the cop keeps pounding you. Rashad was in this situation he was buying chips at the store when he realized his wallet was in his bag, when he went to reach for his wallet he tripped on an old lady, his open bag flew across the aisle and the chips landed right next to the open bag. I am making this inference due to the fact that it said that Rashad was black and he was wearing baggy clothes, this made me think that the police officer was racist and he was using police brutality cause Rashad was black. This quote explains why Rashad might have been arrested, “For a bag of chips that he was gonna pay for! For having brown skin and wearing his jeans a certain way. And guess what, Dad, that ROTC uniform was right there in that bag. The bag was open so that cop probably saw it”(Reynolds 53).
