n this documentary the king of kong we see gamers being shown in many different ways. The king of kong is about two gamers battling for a world record the the video game donkey kong. We learn a lot about them, their life and personality. In the documentary gaming has been shown as a very competitive sport, lots of gamers dedicate most of their time to getting records. The two main characters are Billy Mitchell and Steve Weibe, they have been shown as the bad guy and the good guy throughout the documentary. First I will be looking at Steve Weibe. Steve is shown to be the good guy in the documentary. He is shown to be quite competitive but more dedicated. He is very dedicated to getting the high score and it shows this through the documentary because many scenes are him practising at home and at gaming centres. He also wants to win fair and square so he can prove he is better than Billy by talent and not by cheating. Steve soon shown to be nerdy like some other gamers. Billy has been shown as the “bad guy” in the king of kong documentary. We can see this clearly in the introduction when we are introduced to him and as the doc carried on Billy is shown to be competitive as he will do anything it takes to keep his world record for donkey kong. He is not afraid of hiding his dislike for Steve and this is clear through interviews when talking to him and what Billy says to him. His dislike for Steve comes from the fact that he is trying to beat his world record and Billy doesn’t like that. Billy’s personality throughout the film is shown to be sly, rude, secretive and a bit disrespectful. So altogether he is not shown to be a very nice guy which is what the director obviously didn’t want him to be, he deliberately made Billy out as the bad guy so the documentary was more interesting for
